Maximizing Quality While Minimizing Exposure with Pulsed Fluoroscopy Systems One of the greatest concerns with fluoroscopy systems is unnecessarily exposing the patient or technician to excessive radiation. It's hard to believe now, but crude fluoroscopy units were installed in high-end shoe stores as late as the 1960s. Since then, we have become much more aware of the dangers of excessive radiation exposure.
JPI's DynaVue 2-in-1 total imaging system is designed to deliver less dose while producing better images than older fluoroscopy machines. A large part of this differentiation is the quality of our detector, utilizing high efficiency imaging and a CsI scintillator to produce clear, sharp images with minimal exposure. But another large part is our pulsed exposure fluoroscopy generator.
A standard fluoroscopy generator will run current continuously through the tube, resulting in a constant output of X-ray radiation to the patient. This means that at any given moment, the detector is receiving only a tiny fraction of the total dose to the patient. This exposure must be high to overcome the natural noise that occurs in any detector. Additionally, a great amount of the total exposure is wasted as the detector cycles between frames.
A pulsed fluoroscopy system, such as the technology utilized in JPI's DynaVue, works differently. With the DynaVue, there is no constant exposure to the patient. The DynaVue generator produces short 10 ms bursts of exposure, synchronized so that each burst matches up to a single frame of the fluoroscopy video. 30 times per second, a complete digital X-ray is taken of the patient. The end result is a fantastic video with far less exposure than standard fluoroscopy systems. You may not be utilizing fluoroscopy in your practice now, but there are plenty of reasons to expand your horizons and improve your service and generate revenue performing procedures you couldn't in the past. DynaVue can go from digital X-ray to fluoroscopy mid-exam with just the push of a button, without any adjustment to the animal. Applications beyond digital X-ray are plentiful with DynaVue's added value fluoroscopy capabilities. Some of these procedures include:
