More Information on Veterinary Fluoroscopy
Veterinary fluoroscopy enables real-time radiographic evaluation of animals. Essentially, fluoroscopy gives us the ability to see inside of the body while the organs are in motion. This technology utilizes low doses of continuous x-rays to produce many images, capturing motion in real-time—like an X-ray movie. Another aspect of veterinary fluoroscopy which is beneficial for both the pet and practitioner is that the animal does not need to hold perfectly still as with X-ray.
Fluoroscopy can be useful in a number of applications including being used in surgery as a more minimally-invasive method. Additional applications of this lower dose technology include:
-
- Gastrointestinal system issues
- Heart movement
- Respiratory system
- Difficulty swallowing
- Tracheal collapse and stent repair
- Observing epiglottis abnormalities
- Monitory gastroesophageal reflex disorder (GERD)
- Airway examination; and let’s not forget about
- Minimally-invasive fracture repair.
In addition the positives in the above-referenced applications, other benefits include decreased discomfort, quicker recovery time, and less time overall for our animal friends.
For the most part, fluoroscopy has not been considered standard equipment in a veterinary clinic. Access to this brilliant technology has historically been associated with only the biggest and busiest veterinary practices for two main reasons: cost and space–at least until now. The newly-available DynaVue 2-in-1 total imaging solution from JPI makes digital radiography (DR) and fluoroscopy more accessible for local veterinary clinics, in terms of both price and the amount of space needed for the equipment inside the clinic.
DynaVue combines user-friendly design and great image quality using a photodiode sensor array (PSA) and wavelet transform, which provides enhanced, real-time fluoroscopy. Image speeds are up to 20 FPS without processing or 7.5 FPS with applied post image processing, for real-time visibility.
Some unique advantages of JPI’s DynaVue system include:
- 2-in-1 DR and fluoroscopy
- 36 x 43 cm field of view
- 23″ touchscreen display
- No C-arm or related image distortion
- Enhanced movement with 4-way floating table
