What's the best digital x-ray upgrade for me?
JPI often receives the question, “What’s the best solution for a digital x-ray upgrade?” This is a great question and one of the largest reasons we make sure to assess the needs of our customers, as well as their intended applications of the digital x-ray system, prior to recommending a solution. Flat panel detectors for digital radiography upgrades function through the conversion of x-rays striking their surface into light, and then turning the light into electronic data that displays as a high-quality image on a computer screen. These types of detectors are available in several sizes and configurations.
For example, a 17×17 flat panel detector is best utilized in an environment where the panel will never be moved or rotated. In fact, we often recommend a 17×17 panel over a 14×17 because a 14×17 panel often has to be re-positioned in order to capture certain shots.
A tethered 14×17 may be used for similar applications as a 17×17, but where the practitioner wants to occasionally take the panel out of the table or wall stand. A 14×17 tethered cassette-sized detector easily fits into standard bucky tray cabinets for upgrading a film or CR system to a flat panel digital system.
On the other hand, there are many occurrences where a wireless 14×17 may be best suited for a practice. The instance in which a practitioner wants to be able to move the panel around the office or radiography room is just such an example. This also rings true where the detector will be used as part of a mobile x-ray resource. We commonly see this with portable x-ray providers on the road or veterinarians wanting to use x-ray out in the field.
A wireless 10×12 is ideal for use as a portable unit in mobile and field applications. Lightweight, slim design with a rubber insulated frame and high strength aluminum-alloy case ensures safe and convenient operation and moves. Specialists, such as podiatrists, sports medicine doctors, or equine veterinarians, who greatly value having a light, easily-handled detector to hold in one hand, a wireless 10×12 flat panel detector is ideal.
